Commissions
Though Matthia accepts on-going commission for Icons, she will be the first to tell you she is not a master but an amateur Iconographer, that is, a lover of Icons and Icon writing. Her motto is Mystery not Mastery, her focus and effort is to write an icon following the discipline and deep spiritual practice of the Way of the Icon. Therefore her icons are done thoughtfully,with care and prayer.
When you request an Icon Matthia will respond personally. She will want to know which icon, what has drawn you to that particular icon, and where you intend to place the icon. This is an important part of the process for Matthia as she will carry this knowledge into the work itself.
Unless otherwise specified, your icon will be painted in the traditional manner on a gessoed wooden panel using a paint which is a mix of natural pigments and egg emulsion. Genuine gold leaf is always used for the gilding.
Each icon is unique and each Icon commission is handled in a personal and honorable manner.
